Nursery
What we are learning this term: Spring 2020
In the Early Years our learning is organised into half termly topics. The topic is then planned around the 7 areas of learning. The 7 areas of learning are made up of prime and specific areas.
There are 3 prime areas i.e. Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
The 4 specific areas are Mathematics, Literacy, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
The topics that we choose in the Early Years are usually based on your children’s interests e.g. Animals, Traditional Tales, Nursery Rhymes etc.
Our topics this term is ‘Transport ’, ‘Traditional Stories’, ‘Growing and Planting’ and ‘Easter’ This topic will be further broken down into weekly topics: Transport- Road, Rail, Sea, Air and Foot transport. The traditional stories we are looking at are: The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Hen and Jack and the Beanstalk. We will be planting bean seeds, making bread and cooking oats linking this to our stories.
Nursery’s General Information
On Wednesday mornings the PE Coach Marla and the Art Teacher Miss Amber will be in the Nursery covering the teacher’s PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) time.
Once a month on a Tuesday morning the children visit the school library with staff and have a story read to them by Alex the Librarian and then choose books to look at independently.
Every week your child will choose a library book from the Nursery to bring home for you to read to them. This will be changed on a weekly basis on their allocated days. On this day your child can bring in a little toy or something special from home for ‘Show and Tell’. This will encourage your child to gain confidence when talking in front of his/ her peers.
Spare Clothes-Please make sure that your child has a labelled bag with a spare set of clothing to keep in Nursery in case of toileting accidents or when they get wet during water play. If your child is still in nappies, please ensure that you include extra nappies and wipes too.
Cake Sale– Nursery will be having a cake sale this term on Wednesday, 4 March 2020 at 3.30pm. We kindly ask you to donate cakes, cupcakes, biscuits, crisps etc so that they can be sold at the cake sale. All proceeds from this sale will be used towards purchasing new resources for the children to play with.
We look forward to working in partnership with you to make your child’s first year at school a happy and successful one. Please do not hesitate to talk to any of us with any questions you might have.
