This is the Poem by Maamulaha Highbury Quadrant Poet of Year Emine:
The littlest light on the Christmas tree
I’m the littlest light,
Never on the Christmas tree,
As small as a ladybug…
….That’s me.
All my the others laugh and tease,
Whenever I wish to feel that breeze,
And when I ever try to look great,
I just meet my saddest fate,
The dark and gloomy box of shame,
This is it, I’ve lost my game,
But even so, I do not cry,
As I huff and puff, I try and try…
…But whatever I do, I do not shine.
And when another year has passed,
I wake up all brave again, at last,
A sweaty hand picks me up,
But …
…throws me, into the dark…
Trembling, I try to see,
What on earth has happened to me?
Suddenly, a bright light appeared,
Melting my eyes, I’m terribly feared.
At last, I see I am in a snowy place,
With a large, fresh tree like an emerald lace,
And this time I don’t get dumped madly,
But a welcoming hand helps me up the tree.
Finally, the time I’ve been waiting for,
Presents are delivered, a time of awe,
Now’s the time as you see,
I’m the littlest light on the Christmas tree…
